Indonesia's independence on August 17, 1945 is certainly a historic day for the Indonesian people. The hope of the Indonesian people at that time was to be free from the fate of a colonized nation that had been carried out for hundreds of years and passed through several generations. In fact, after Indonesia's independence, it does not necessarily become a sovereign nation that determines the life of the nation and state. The Dutch, who were riding with the allies, wanted to regain control of Indonesia, which for three and a half years had changed hands under Japanese rule. As a result, Indonesia's sovereignty as a country is unstable.

Not long after the Proclamation of Independence, on September 29, 1945, the Dutch succeeded in capturing Jakarta. The fall of the capital city to the Netherlands made Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono IX send his envoys and offer the city of Yogyakarta to be the capital. This suggestion was later approved by President Soekarno. On January 4, 1946, the capital of Indonesia officially moved to Yogyakarta. The State Palace was moved to the Great Building which is located opposite the Vedeburg Fort.

The move of the government of the Republic of Indonesia to Yogyakarta was followed by the move of the Indonesian Republic Police Headquarters. If at that time the state government was in Gedung Agung, it would not be the case with the Police, which did not have a place as its headquarters. At that time the people of Yogyakarta were very supportive of the struggle of the Indonesian National Police. A hamlet located near the Progo River which is classified as a simple village and far from the hustle and bustle of the city of Yogyakarta provides itself as a place for the police headquarters. The hamlet was named Dusun Kwayuhan.

Kwayuhan Hamlet is included in the Sendangmulyo Village area, Minggir District, Sleman Regency. The hamlet is surrounded by rice fields and decorated with views of the Menoreh hills to the west. Most of the residents work as farmers. The helping hand of its citizens is very instrumental in the struggle for the Indonesian National Police. One of the houses, namely the residence of the village head, Mr. Damanuri, was used as a command like the police headquarters, the house is also equipped with a guard post which is now used as a security post.

Not far from that location, there is Hadi Wiyono's house which used to be a soup kitchen and Jiwo Suharsono's house as an administrative office. At that time the head of the National Police was General Sukamto. It is from this remote hamlet that all commands of the state police are carried out. The people volunteered to help all these activities in order to maintain the independence that had been achieved. R. Mohamad Zein Suryopranoto also established a Police School in this hamlet.

Other forms of assistance were also provided by residents of Nanggulan Hamlet, Sendangagung Village, Minggir District, Sleman Regency. This hamlet is located in the west of Kwayuhan Hamlet, but in a different village area. According to one of the surviving historical actors, this village is where the Emergency Police School was held. As a place for schools to be held in one of the residents' houses. According to another source, in Dusun Nanggulan, not as a place for the Emergency Police School but as a place for fighting between the Dutch army and the people's army.

When the Dutch military aggression II occurred in 1949 the number of police forces in Kwayuhan was only about 300 personnel and was not enough against the Dutch. Therefore all the men in the area were offered to become police officers. The exam is also very easy, by jumping over two chairs (benches). It is so easy to become a policeman, if you can do that, you are already a policeman, but the risk is that you have to be ready to die against the Dutch to save Yogyakarta. The cooperation between the police and the people of Kwayuhan Hamlet worked hand in hand until the capital city of the Republic of Indonesia moved back to Jakarta.

The services of the people of Kwayuhan Hamlet and its surroundings for the Police have aroused the police's debt to the Kwayuhan residents. On the initiative of General Anton Soedjarwo, a monument was built, known as the "MONUMEN WIRANARA". Wira means brave and nara in Javanese means people. If interpreted Wiranara is a brave man who fights to defend his homeland and nation. Meanwhile, the residents of Dusun Nanggulan, who served as a place for the Emergency Police School, received a token of love from the Police in the form of a “Multipurpose Building” which was built in the Sendang Agung Village complex. In 1983, the National Police Chief General Anton Soedjarwo inaugurated the Wiranara Museum as a symbol of Polri's dedication to the people who love it. The monument is a sign that the long journey of the Indonesian National Police has involved the people of Kwayuhan Hamlet.

The Wiranara Monument still stands strong, as strong as the struggle of the people at that time. The people have contributed to supporting and defending the Indonesian National Police. The people's memory is still strong, the Police, which is now a big institution, was raised and guarded by the people in a remote village far away in the Yogyakarta area.
