Minggir is a sub-district located at the western end of the Sleman Regency, D.I. Yogyakarta. The area is mostly rural and rice fields. As far as the eye can see, there are expanses of green rice fields interspersed with trees that add to the unspoiled atmosphere. The vast rice fields make this area a rice granary area. The area is still green and beautiful, far from pollution and city noise. Most of the people in the Minggir area make a living in agriculture.

The condition of the area that still has a village feel has left traces of the Dutch colonial heritage. This area turns out to have several buildings which are heritage buildings of the Dutch government in Indonesia. Some of these relics are still intact as in the original form and building, but some have been destroyed. We can find these relics, especially in the villages of Sendangagung, Sendangsari, Sendangmulyo, Sendangarum, and Sendangrejo. The building consists of nine classifications, namely buildings in the form of buildings, factories, schools, baths, churches, markets, irrigation canals, clinics, and guard posts.

Loji Kidul in Sendangagung Village

The building in the form of a lodge-shaped building by the Dutch colonial government was used as the center of government in the Minggir area and its surroundings. This building was built around the beginning of the 20th century and residents in the Minggir area refer to the building as “Setapelan. There are 3 (three) buildings built including:

  1. Loji Kidul is located in Ngenthak Hamlet, Sendangagung Village. This building is still original and is now owned by a resident.
  2. Loji Lor complex which is located in Pojok Hamlet, Sendangagung Village. Some of the buildings belong to the government and have been restored, now being used for the Minggir sub-district office. Part of the complex belongs to one resident.
  3. Loji Serut. This building is located in Bandan Hamlet, Sendangsari. This building is used for the Extraordinary School (SLB) building.

The second building is a sugar factory and a clothing dyeing factory (wenteran). The sugar factory is located in Padon Hamlet, Sendangrejo Village. This factory was built around the 1920's. This building was damaged by the Dutch themselves by dropping bombs from airplanes. This was done by the Dutch in 1949 when the Dutch were about to leave Indonesia. Now the condition of the building has been badly damaged, only the eastern wall has collapsed and is filled with weeds. The former location of this sugar factory by the Sendangrejo Village government was used as a football field. The wenteran factory is located in Corner Hamlet, Sendangagung Village. According to one historical actor, this place was used to dye clothes. The condition of the building is damaged and has no traces. This place is now used as a fish pond for aquaculture. By the people around this place known as "Babrik" and now the Kebonagung Bridge is being built.

Bok Renteng is a Dutch heritage water channel located on the border of Minggir District with Tempel District.

The school which is a legacy of the Dutch is Kebonagung Elementary School which is located in Sendangagung Village. During the Dutch era this place was called the SR or the People's School. The condition of the building is still good and quite well maintained.

There are two baths built by the Dutch. The first bath is known as "Sendang Mudal" which is located in the corner Hamlet, Sendangagung Village. This Dutch bathhouse was built around 1930. Until now the condition of the building is still good and is still used as a bathing place for local residents. The second bath is called "Sendang Ngumbul" which is located in Kliran Hamlet, Sendangagung Village. Known as ngumbul because the spring water shower is very high. The current condition of the building has been damaged because it is located on the slopes of the Progo river which has had many landslides.

The remains of the building in the form of a church are located in Klepu Hamlet, Sendangmulyo Village. This church is used by Catholics for worship and until now it has become one of the largest churches in the Sleman district. Most of the buildings are still original and some parts have been renovated. The building in the church is still original and clearly visible Dutch style architecture.

Kebonagung Market is a market that was built by the Dutch government around 1930. The original building has two market stalls which are Dutch heritage buildings. Previously, the Kebonagung market was included in the Kliran hamlet area. In its development, the Kebonagung market was included in the Pojok hamlet area.

The Dutch heritage in the form of irrigation canals is the Van der Wijk Ditch aka Bok Renteng. The Van der Wijk sewer is very meaningful for the Minggir community who depend on agriculture for their livelihood.

During the Dutch colonial rule in the Minggir area, there was one building that was used for a small hospital or clinic. This building is located in Kregan Hamlet, Sendangagung. The current condition of the building is not used and the building is in an unkempt condition.

The guard post was used by the Dutch to guard or picket the Dutch army. In the Minggir area there are several guard posts. The guard posts that still exist are located in Bontitan Hamlet (Sendangagung Village), guard posts in Jomboran Hamlet (Sendangagung Village), guard posts in Ngagul-agulan Hamlet (Sendangrejo Village), and guard posts in the Koloauthor area (Sendangmulyo Village). The guard post which has been damaged and has no traces is located in the north of Kwayuhan hamlet, Sendangmulyo.
